Turmeric 101:

Golden milk lattes, immunity shots, and superfood bars are taking over the shelves… the star wellness ingredient? The king of spices, turmeric. Turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, is one of the most powerful medicinal foods. This potent superfood may have only come into the spotlight as of late, but its healing properties have been utilized for centuries. Originating in India and Southeast Asia for its use in Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric is one of the oldest forms of holistic medicine dating back thousands of years. Thankfully within the past few years this superstar spice has become widely mainstream, making its healing capabilities well-known nationwide. With a vibrant yellow-orange color and earthy-taste, it may not be the biggest palate pleaser, but this spice is definitely worth incorporating into your diet. Prized for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric helps reduce muscle soreness and speed up recovery, making it a beloved superfood at Livkraft!

Nutritional Benefits of Turmeric

Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, holds all the healing properties within the spice. Turmeric contains more than 300 compounds including beta-carotene, Vitamin C, calcium, iron, potassium, and zinc! Along with its powerful antiinflammatory properties, turmeric is a potent antioxidant.

Optimize Turmeric Levels

  • Increase Absorption with Black Pepper – Turmeric has a low bioavailability; your body does not absorb the spice well when taken alone. To increase the absorption rate by up to 2000%, pair turmeric with a dash of black pepper. The compound peperine in black pepper helps the body absorb the curcumin from the digestive system into the bloodstream
  • Add a healthy fat– Turmeric is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning in order to increase the absorption rate, it needs to be paired with a healthy fat. Try adding a dash of coconut oil next time you’re cooking or baking with turmeric!

Incorporate Turmeric into Your Diet
